Frozen Comes to DVD and Blu-Ray - A Review

Frozen is due out on DVD and Blu-ray soon, so with great celebration at Teen Disney - here is a review of Disney's latest animation adventure by our resident reviewer, Lindsey Gosnell:

"Frozen has gone above and beyond the nation's expectations.  Being the number one movie in America, the film continues to stun audiences with it's flawless animation, music, and storytelling.
Already critically acclaimed as "the best Disney movie since The Lion King," the film does not disappoint.  Written by Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee, and Shane Morris, the story is an adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson tale, The Ice Queen.  Disney's adaptation features two sisters:  Optimistic, yet clumsy, Anna (Kristen Bell) and the regal and poised Elsa (Idina Menzel).  Born with the power to control snow and ice, Elsa must keep her magic under control.  The beautiful kingdom of Arrendale is turned into an eternal winter at Elsa's coronation.  After she hears of her younger sister's hasty engagement to Hans of the Southern Isles (Santino Fontana), Elsa lets her powers go and runs away from the kingdom.  Now it is up to Anna to find Elsa, meeting some unlikely friends along the way.  With the help of Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), his loveable reindeer Sven, and the hilarious snow man, Olaf (Josh Gad), Anna sets off on an adventure to save her sister as well as her kingdom.
The animation techniques in the movie have audiences floored. To say that this movie was well made, or beautifully animated, would be an understatement.  As for the music, the songs for the film were written by husband and wife duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The work that was put forth on this soundtrack is astounding; it's fun, moving, and altogether, it is a treasure for years to come. Elsa's song Let it Go is by far one of the most loved Disney songs with over two million views on Youtube!
The animators, along with Broadway singer and actress Idina Menzel, continue to bring audiences to tears and amazement.  Kristen Bell also gives a wonderful performance with the fun Love is an Open Door, featuring Santino Fontana.  Her solo song, For the First Time in Forever is fun, honest, moving, and it certainly embodies Anna as a character.  Although I would have loved to hear Jonathan Groff's vocals for more than one song, Reindeer are Better than People fits Kristoff's character perfectly as well.
While introducing two new princess to add to the Disney royal family, the film is much more than just another princess movie.  Matching pace with newer Disney movies such as Tangled and Brave, we may be seeing the start of a new Disney renaissance. The last renaissance the animation company started was in 1989 with The Little Mermaid.  The films following its release stunned the viewers with breathtaking animation and classic tales of love, triumph, and magic.  With Tangled, Brave, and Frozen, it seems as if the company is headed in a new direction with their storytelling.   Focusing more on the heroine and less on love interests, all three movies have set a standard for our younger generations.  To stay true to one's self, to become your own hero, and to put family first are the values that these films have pushed.  Girls, it's time to forget the guy and lace up your own boots.  It's time for you to shine.  As for boys, there is much more appeal in Frozen than any of the other Disney movies.  The romantic element that most boys find uninteresting is so subdued that it isn't a main part of the plot.  Olaf will have them laughing, and the action will keep them on the edge of their seats.
Frozen will be treasured by children of all ages for years to come, and is certainly a milestone in Disney history.
